Phillipa Fitness Question #59 – Should I count calories?

Hi guys it’s Phillipa here from Fit Futures Academy.

I get a lot of questions around calorie count and whether or not you should do it? So, it is a great way to draw attention to your diet, hold you accountable and ensure that you’re eating the right amount of nutrients but especially if you’re on a particular diet. There are some negatives to these; so firstly it’s quite time-consuming. Finding the right food on ‘my fitness pal’ can take a while and entering each snack that you have, it takes a lot of commitment.

The second thing is that it can make you obsessive and take away the fun of food.

Lastly, it might not even be that accurate. The FDA allows a 20% leeway on the calories given to you on the back of the packet, so you might be stressing about 200 extra calories that you didn’t even eat, awesome.
